WHY STRENGTH?
WHAT IS STRENGTH?
Strength defined is: the ability to produce force against an external resistance. Strength is what allows humans to interact with their physical environment. The greater the strength the more options and ability a person is afforded to interact with their environment and the greater external resistances a person can overcome.
SO WHY FOCUS OUR TRAINING ON STRENGTH?
Training for strength is so much more then simply being able to bench press 300+lbs. When we train to become strong, every physical exertion in life becomes more sub-maximal, meaning that every action now takes less effort then before.
This is true for the high school football athlete who breaks off the line to completely overwhelm his weaker opponent. This is true for the mom that not only carries one but two 40lb bags of pet food through the store. This is true for the 65-year-old grandmother that can independently get herself in and out of chairs. And this is true for the 80 grandfather that has fallen but had the strength to pick himself up and call for help. Strength is critical to a happy and healthy life.
In addition, increasing strength improves every single other athletic ability: power, speed, balance, endurance and more. It is for this reason that our precious time is best spent becoming stronger.
HOW DO WE TRAIN TO BECOME STRONGER?
Training to become stronger is not complicated, in fact its quite simple. Train hard. Show up again and train a little harder. Repeat. Stay consistent and put in the work and you will receive considerable benefit. We don’t need 1,000 different exercises, variations, or complex loading schemes.
In fact, 80% of our energy is best spent on only four different movements: the Squat, Press, Deadlift, and the Bench Press. These movements are selected because they improve strength the most efficiently by using:
1. The most amount of muscle mass
2. Greatest effective range of motion
3. The most amount of weight.
And it’s for these reasons that we primarily utilize barbells. Barbells are incrementally loadable from 5 pounds to 1000 pounds and beyond. Whether you are a 82 year old grandma or a 24 year old athlete, we can provide the proper resistance for you.
WHY TRAIN WITH A COACH?
People that train with a coach learn faster, are more successful, and are less likely to get hurt. Training is certainly not complicated, but the movements themselves are complex motor tasks best learned and reinforced with a competent strength coach. Our coaches have spent countless hours honing their craft and continue to do so. Let us save you the time and frustration of trying to accomplish this on your own and possibly making poor progress or worse, getting hurt.
Coaches and training partners are the ultimate accountability. Maybe you have attempted to walk this road before with less results then desired? Undergoing strenuous training is hard but we are here to support you and keep you progressing towards your goals.
